Skincare Basics: Do I really need this?

A wise legend once said, “You wake up, flawless. Post up, flawless.” Let’s be real, not many of us are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Beyonce’ queens at the crack of dawn. If you’re like me (correction: me a couple of months ago), you either A) Do not have a skincare regimen B) Do not care for a skincare regimen C) Do not think there’s a benefit to it or D) All of the above.

I’m here to tell you, this very much should be a key component to your everyday routine! Need to get started? No worries- I’m here to help and preach on the benefits of it ;)

Cleanser. Just like your dishes, you need to clean your face!

No, I don’t mean splashing your face with water and calling it a day. It’s important to buy a cleanser to wash the dirt, sweat, and most importantly, bad energy from your gorgeous face. Oily, dry, sensitive... Cleansers do not discriminate, make sure to find one for your skin type.

Toner. Is this really necessary...

Here is a product where I had doubts, uncertainty, and skepticism. I was in your shoes, but I will tell you now… Yes, you need this. Toner helps remove all that extra dirt and is the bridge to reaching clear skin. Along with the removal of excess dirt, oil and leftover makeup, it shrinks your pores (getting your skin right and tight), restores your skin’s pH balance (for that glow doh), and refreshes your skin without stripping moisture.

Serums. I like to be a little extra ;)

I’m at that age where I know giving some extra TLC to my skin will help me out in the long run. With that said, I’ll go the extra mile with these bad boys. Serums are super-concentrated, nutrient-dense treatments that address specific concerns to help with the upkeep and longevity of your skin. My personal favorite (Olehenricksen Truth Serum) restores and brightens my face.  After 2 months of consistent application, the results are amazing!

Eye Cream. We can agree, the only bags we like are on our arms.

You can tell a lot by looking into someone's eyes and unfortunately, they do not hide the fine lines, eyebags, and long nights. Eye creams are specifically formulated to tackle the soft and delicate skin around the eyes. Adding eye cream to your skin care regimen has many benefits that include, minimizing dark circles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and relieving puffiness. Consistent use of eye cream will maintain the elasticity, thickness, and health of the eyelid skin.

Moisturizer. Yes, even oily skin can benefit from this.

Using the right moisturizer will help maintain the balance of dry and Oily to your skin. Just like cleansers there are different products for your specific skin type. Moisturizers will help with hydration as well as add a protective and rejuvenating layer to your beautiful skin.

Sunscreen. The cherry on top!

If it’s one thing you get from this article, I hope it is to use sunscreen. I cannot stress enough the importance of sunscreen. Including sunscreen into your daily routine will protect you from harmful UV rays and those unwanted sun spots.

It’s been less than a year since I’ve hopped on the full skin care bandwagon and I can truly say this is the best condition my skin has ever been in. Consistency is key and results do not come overnight, friend, but after a couple months you will start to see the glow. I’ve added some links to the current products I use and love. Everyone's skin is different and one product may work better for another person, but don’t give up and find the perfect fit for you! Cheers to self-care!
